ABOUT ALISON EALES:

“I’m so happy to have been asked to take part in this project.  I’m no
stranger to making pop records, having recorded with Butcher Boy and
All My Friends, but this is the first time I have released my own
songs into the wild.

I recorded these tracks in my pyjamas, sitting on the floor of a small
cupboard, with a cotton bag over my head as a makeshift pop-shield.
It was only after I’d finished that I realised I could have put the
bag over the microphone.”

THE COVER SONG:

We have encouraged the single-bands to make a cover version of a song they think deserve more attention.

Alison Eales have chosen to cover “Overblown Gestures”, originally written and performed by The Just Joans.
The original version is available on Love And Other Hideous Accidents, which was released by WeePOP! records in 2009. The physical version of the EP is out of print, but you can buy it from iTunes or other digital shops.

Here is a stream of The Just Joans playing their original version of “Overblown Gestures”:

The Just Joans – Overblown Gestures by eardrums

The Covered Artist: The Just Joans

“there’s not too much to say in terms of a biography. the just joans started as a self-indulgent solo project where i moaned to the world about not having a girlfriend. the world didn’t care. in 2005 we released a very lo-fi concept album about leaving home and going to university called “last tango in motherwell”. the world still didn’t care…but fortunately camila at weepop records heard it and asked if we’d like to release an ep with them. over the last 4 years or so we’ve released 4 ep’s “virgin lips”, “hey boy…you’re oh so sensitive”, “love and other hideous accidents” and most recently “your pain is a joke next to mines”. we are now a 6 piece and have almost learned how to tune our instruments. hopefully we’ll be releasing a kind of “best of” album on weepop early next year.

The Just Joans have a nice Christmas EP out now on WeePOP! records, and here is one of the songs from it:
